Dreadline Express Release Date Revealed at 28 Games Later Showcase

Dreadline Express is a brand-new and super unique psychological horror title riddled with original elements, and during the recent 28 Games Later Showcase, hosted by Insider Gaming, it got a release date. It’s set to drop on Steam on October 16, introducing gamers everywhere to a twisted, mysterious end-of-the-world scenario with an unnerving art style.

Below, you’ll find the new release date trailer for Dreadline Express, along with everything else you’d possibly want to know about the game, courtesy of Insider Gaming’s latest showcase.

What is Dreadline Express?

Dreadline Express is a first-person horror game set aboard a massive train at the end of the world. The human race has been decimated by something outside the train, and it’s up to you to find out what’s happening by grilling and investigating the train’s eclectic assortment of passengers.

It’s a Metroidbrainia, and you don’t see too many of those on today’s market. Dreadline Express uses a unique card-based mechanic that expands as you unlock more elements of the game’s narrative, picking up tips, clues, and tools that you can use to push passengers further towards giving up their darkest, most morbid secrets.

Key Features of Ritual Tides

  • Open-Ended Approach: How you play Dreadline Express is entirely up to you, and whether you want to be a sleuth finding out all the clues before proceeding or if you want to use brute force to hammer your way into the minds of the train’s passengers, the game will happily (or reluctantly) accommodate you.
  • Unique, Card-Based Mechanic: In Dreadline Express, your arsenal is made up of knowledge, which is part and parcel of it being a Metroidbrainia. As you progress through the story, you’ll unlock more ‘cards’ in a binder, equipping your character with increasing amounts of information about what the hell is going on, and that knowledge equals power.
  • Build or Break Relationships: Dreadline Express has a non-linear approach to storytelling, and it’s up to you to decide if you want to make friends or enemies. The puzzles you’re presented with have multiple solutions at times, but you’ll inevitably end up making someone’s day, or making an irrevocable enemy.

The Studio Behind Dreadline Express

Dreadline Express comes from a solo developer, David Konecny, a passionate gamer himself who hails from the Czech Republic. Dreadline Express represents his most prolific and ambitious project yet, and in many ways, it’s a world away from his previous projects.

Before, he created smaller experiences via game jam activities, which have resulted in a hidden object game, a beer brewing minigame, and a ‘comical card game about taking drugs.’

It’s safe to say that Dreadline Express has much more meat on the bones and represents something chilling and intriguing.
