As reported by Brian Crecente’s Game newsletter and also IGN, producer Ari Arad offered a brand-new update on the Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation.
Arad revealed that “we’re working on the script some more, but I can’t talk about it yet.” This confirms the movie is still under way, and there is likely some traction with the story.
Arad added that “I think everyone’s going to be really excited and surprised.”
The producer also briefly spoke about the potential tone of the film. They stated that “I think getting Metal Gear right will obviously be amazing because I think it’s a lot more meditative than some of the other adaptations.”
The Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation originally had Jordan Vogt-Roberts of Kong: Skull Island attached to direct. Also, Oscar Isaac previously joined the cast. It’s unclear if either creative is still going to be a part of the Metal Gear Solid film in some way.
In the meantime, fans of the game series are looking forward to the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake. Just weeks ago, Gamestop appeared to leak a release date for the anticipated remake. In a deleted post, Gamestop suggested it will arrive on November 17, 2024.
Other film adaptations on the way include the Street Fighter movie, now set for a 2026 release window, and a Super Mario Bros. sequel coming in April 2026.
