Street Fighter Movie is to be Released in 2026

A new update on the upcoming Street Fighter movie has revealed that it will be released in 2026, despite the project losing its directors.

In an update to IGN, Sony Pictures confirmed that the movie will be released on March 20, 2026, but the company did not reveal who will now direct it.

So far, all we know about the project is that it’s being produced alongside Street Fighter publisher and developer Capcom, with directors Danny and Michael Philippou walking away from the project due to scheduling.

There has yet to be any official announcements on who will be cast in the film.

Street Fighter has already had two films, which were perceived pretty poorly by audiences. The 1994 film was given a 20% audience score on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes but did accumulate $100 million at the box office though on an estimated $35 million budget. 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li didn’t fair much better either with audience ratings, coming in at 18%.

It’s unclear when we will get more updates on the upcoming movie, but with less than two years until its intended release date, information could trickle through soon.

  • 2026 is an ample amount of time to find a filmmaker who loves and understands the Street Fighter mythos/lore.

If I were Legendary, I would hire a filmmaker who is already deemed worthy to Street Fighter fans with multiple live-action adaptations. That ideal filmmaker would be Joey Ansah, the man responsible for bringing great live-action Street Fighter to the world with “Street Fighter: Legacy”, “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist”, and “Street Fighter: Resurrection”.

  • Instead of this why not make anime a Street Fighter anime from MAPPA for instance. Capcom, Nintendo, Square Enix, and others should go the anime route instead of Hollywood. Final Fantasy XV anime was good.
