Because of a PS5 Pro shortage in Japan, PlayStation is accepting purchase applications for the title and will introduce a lottery system.
The new application process for PS5 Pros in Japan has been introduced in response to the problem of scalpers. Scalpers have consistently affected the availability of high-demand products, making it difficult for genuine buyers to make purchases. With this new application system, Sony aims to deter scalpers and ensure that only legitimate customers have the opportunity to buy units.
PS5 Pro Buyers in Japan Need to Fill Out an Application First
Spotted by Eurogamer, a new post by PlayStation talks about the PS5 Pro application process and the lottery system. Players have been told the company has begun accepting applications for purchase; however, if demand exceeds available units, it will have to resort to a lottery system. These applications and notifying users will be handled by Sony Interactive Entertainment, while shipments will be handled by Sony Marketing.

There are several criteria players have to meet with their PS5 Pro application to be eligible for purchase. Players will need PlayStation Online Services with a Sony account registered in Japan. They need to be signed in to this account and have played a total of 60 hours or more of games on either a PS5 or PS4, or both, between September 27, 2024 (Friday) and September 27, 2026 (Sunday) at 23:59. Lastly, the Sony account used to apply should be the same as their My Sony ID and sign-in ID.
