IO Interactive’s Project Fantasy Is In a “Very Healthy Space”

IO Interactive’s CEO has informed players that Project Fantasy is still in development and remains financed.

Project Fantasy is a new IP in development at IO Interactive. It is an online fantasy RPG that features a world and a game built from the ground up to entertain players and expand for many years to come. There were rumors that the game might have lost its finances, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

IO Interactive CEO Didn’t Reveal the Partner for Project Fantasy, But Confirms It’s Safe

In a new interview with The Game Business, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak briefly discussed Project Fantasy’s status. Abrak first stated that he won’t reveal the partner and will not confirm or deny whether Xbox is involved in the project. However, what he could confirm was that “Project Fantasy is in a very healthy place, it’s still financed, and it’s amazing.” So any players who were waiting for this project can rest easy.

For those wondering about the game, we don’t know many details, but the developers have said it feels familiar, yet IOI is also on a journey unlike any we have been on before. The developers have also stated how they ended up exploring this genre:

For many, this journey is also a deeply personal one that began long before we started making games for a living – and it started with the fantasy genre. From the “Fighting Fantasy” books, compelling you to choose your path, alone, against wizards, lizards, and thief kings. To the togetherness, camaraderie, agony, and delight found around the tabletop. For some, it meant taking the role of a game master: Part storyteller, part AI opponent, part guide, part villain. For everyone around that table, it meant creativity, imagination, building a world together, and a shared goal in creating a great game experience.

In other news, IO Interactive and Build a Rocket Boy’s publishing collaboration for MindsEye has concluded. Additionally, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak spoke about the future of the 007 franchise and whether a sequel is on the cards.
