NetherRealm Studios is reportedly working on the third game in the DC Comics fighting franchise, Injustice.
It’s been nearly 10 years since the release of the last Injustice game. The series, which pits DC Superheroes against one another, is produced by the Mortal Kombat development team. It is known for its storyline that explores an alternate universe in which Superman becomes a rogue global dictator after being tricked by the Joker into killing Lois Lane and their unborn child. Eventually, the Justice League from a more typical universe would step in to stop the maniacal “Man of Steel.”
The storyline has been adapted into comic books and an animated film. But now, it may be time for the next chapter in the video game series, according to a new report.
Injustice 3 Is in Development, Per An Artist’s Resume
According to a report by MP1st, the game is currently in development. The information they shared comes from the resume of an anonymous artist currently working at Warner Bros. Games. The artist’s identity was withheld for confidentiality reasons. However, additional projects they are working on include the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy and two projects that are labeled unannounced.
In 2022, Ed Boon, one of the original creators of Mortal Kombat and the head of NetherRealm Studios, announced his intention to return to the series. In November of that year, Boon tweeted out that his next project would be the next Injustice title or Mortal Kombat 12. The latter would eventually release as Mortal Kombat 1 in 2023. The game served as a reboot for the MK series following Mortal Kombat 11.
With nearly 3 years since that game’s release, NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games would theoretically be in the clear to work hard on the next Injustice release. Still, only time will tell.
