Over the past week, give or take, Helldivers 2 experienced a massive influx of new players as the game began to pop off on social media. Everyone wanted to support Super Earth, so the game enjoyed countless new Cadets enlisting to stop the Terminid threat. But the influx sent the game’s servers reeling, and now many suffer from the defrosting Helldiver issue in Helldivers 2. Here’s how to potentially fix that bug!

How to Stop Defrosting Helldiver in Helldivers 2

If you’re one of the players currently facing the defrosting Helldiver error in Helldivers 2, know that you’re not alone. It’s a problem that many face right now. To fix the problem, try:

  • Restarting the Game: It’s an age-old fix that still works today. If such an error persists, shut down the game, even background applications relating to the title, and then relaunch.
  • Restart Your System: Whether you’re playing PC or PS5, you may find that restarting the entire system has a positive effect. Yes, restarting the system can take some time, but it may resolve the bug altogether.
  • Verify Game Files: On Steam, you can right-click the game in your library, select ‘Properties,’ then choose ‘Installed Files’ and ‘Verify integrity of game files.’ Let this process run in the background, and if you’re missing files or they’re corrupted, the game will redownload them for you.
  • Check Server Status: Unfortunately, not every issue is fixable on your end. Sometimes, especially with a game launch like this one, we see server-side issues that only the development team can resolve in time.

The State of the Helldivers 2 Servers

Since the game’s launch, players have patiently dealt with numerous server-side errors that range from the inability to obtain acquisitions to total connection error issues. But worry not because developer Arrowhead Game Studios is tirelessly working to resolve the many problems facing the game’s impressive launch. They said:

Hello Divers!

Earlier tonight we had server related issues with a concurrent player spike. This lead to some mission payouts failing, some players being kicked to their ships, or being logged out.

Our team is working around the clock to solve these issues. While we’ve been able to mitigate some of the causes, we are still struggling to keep up with the scaling that is needed to accommodate all our Helldivers.

Therefore we’ve had to cap our concurrent players to around 450,000 to further improve server stability. We will continue to work with our partners to get the ceiling raised.

If you have progression related issues, please restart the game in order for things to sync back up. Thank you for your continued patience.
