A new update has revealed that the Hitman live-action series for Hulu has been officially canceled.
In 2017, a live-action Hitman TV series was announced, with Hulu and Fox 21 leading the adaptation efforts. They brought in Derek Kolstad, the creator of the John Wick franchise, to work on the project. However, it appears that the adaptation did not come to fruition, as the project has been canceled.
Hitman Live Action TV Series for Hulu has been Canceled
According to a recent report by The Direct, executive producer Kolstad announced that the live-action TV series adaptation of Hitman is “dead in the water.” He made this statement at the premiere of Normal during the South by Southwest festival. Kolstad, who is also the creator of John Wick, expressed his deep affection for the Hitman franchise and character, describing the cancellation as “a little bit of a dagger in the chest.”
Kolstad mentioned that while he is capable of writing a screenplay, there is currently no market for buying them; what is needed is for someone to produce the movie or show. Unfortunately, he noted that there has been no progress with the Hitman adaptation. Interested readers can find Kolstad’s full statement below:
No… It’s a little bit of a dagger in the chest. Who knows nowadays, but it’s dead in the water. But, man, I love that thing, because I love that game and I love that character. But the problem is, I can write a screenplay, but no one’s going to go out and buy the screenplay. You’ve got to make the movie, you’ve got to make the show. But nothing’s happening with that man, sadly.”
In other news, IO Interactive added cross-progression to Hitman: World of Assassination recently. Additionally, 007 First Light took inspiration from the Batman: Arkham and Uncharted series for combat. What are your thoughts on the Hitman live-action TV series being canceled?
