Grand Theft Auto 6 pre-orders are live across the world, giving you the chance to buy the game ready for its November 19 launch. With thousands of players flocking to the XBOX and PlayStation Stores to pre-order the game, some have noticed an interesting detail in the download files, and it might hint at the future of GTA Online.
PlayStation has been marketed as the best place to play GTA 6, with practically no loading screens on the PS5, as well as an unannounced suite of PS5 Pro enhancements. That said, it was XBOX fans who made the in-game file discoveries, as the future of GTA 6 multiplayer takes an interesting turn.
GTA Online Seems More & More Likely
Thanks to X user GlowDevs, a closer look at the GTA 6 XBOX files has been shared, as the game is seemingly broken down into a host of Add-ons.
A lot is run-of-the-mill stuff, with the Ultimate Edition bonuses and Vintage Vice City Pack included as separate downloads, but what’s caught the attention of the fanbase is the final Add-on, simply titled ‘Story.’ Captioned below, it mentions that it ‘doesn’t need to be installed.’
As you can imagine, that’s caused a stir in the community, as up until now, the game has been marketed as a ‘single-player experience,’ with no sign of GTA Online in sight. But if there was no other content in GTA 6, like an online mode, why would you be able to not download the Story content?
It’s led many to believe that we’ll see a similar situation with GTA 6 as we have with previous Rockstar titles. With Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA 5, you could choose which elements of the game you wanted to download, with the single-player and online modes being separate installs. Could we see the same with GTA 6? It’s looking increasingly likely.
As things stand, though, Rockstar remains tight-lipped on the future of GTA Online. Until we get official confirmation, it’s best to temper expectations, even if everyone expects GTA 6 to get some form of multiplayer in the future.
In the meantime, give yourself a reminder of the GTA 6 second trailer, as the hype continues to build.
