It has been revealed that the GTA 6 Leonida map is Rockstar Games’ biggest map ever released.
The news was revealed in the latest issue of GameInformer, where it was revealed that the map is the biggest ever created for a Rockstar Games title, and by “some degree”.
How Big is GTA 6’s Leonida Map?
While Garbut didn’t go into much detail on the map’s exact square kilometers, he said it’s around twice the size of the map in Grand Theft Auto 5.
For comparison’s sake, Red Dead Redemption 2’s map is only slightly bigger than that of GTA 5, too.
In the GameInformer article, it’s said, “This new world is different,” Garbut says. “We obsessed about every part – the rooftops, the alleys, the internals and everything in between to the point we hit a critical mass with the numbers of our interiors, and you start to feel the buildings are more real inside and out. This world is a cohesive whole with the density of content and a hand-crafted quality to every bit.”
While an exact number wasn’t provided, GTA 5’s map is around 75-80 square kilometers, with around 50 square kilometers being on land. So if Garbut’s statement is true, GTA 6’s map should be around 150-160 square kilometers including the ocean boundaries, or around 100 square kilometers on land.
New gameplay screenshots of GTA 6 reveal the game in insane detail, including the games new weather systems, NPCs, and more.
GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X.
