During today’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase event, Nintendo revealed that Grounded is officially coming to the Nintendo Switch on April 16th.
Grounded was developed by Obsidian Entertainment, and it was originally published by Xbox Game Studios.
This is one of just a few Xbox titles that are testing the waters with ports for other consoles. One of the other rumored games includes Hi-Fi Rush, though Nintendo did not confirm anything today.
Recent reports claimed that Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment are even coming to the Playstation 5.
Nintendo did not confirm the exact pricing for this new version of Grounded. Today’s full Nintendo Direct included a new trailer for the Switch version.
Many Xbox fans became worried about the platform’s recent business plans regarding exclusivity. However, Microsoft did release a special edition podcast addressing these concerns.
Microsoft also announced plans for a “powerful” next-gen Xbox console, and a handheld device could still be on the way.
Grounded would definitely benefit from mobile gameplay on the Nintendo Switch. It has a casual tone, with lots of base building and a lightheartedness that matches the Nintendo brand.
Grounded is a low stakes indie for Xbox, but it also has very strong reviews on Metacritic.
The Nintendo Switch port for Grounded is definitely a highlight from today’s show. However, many Nintendo fans are growing impatient as they wait for the next major console announcement.
Earlier this week, a new Bloomberg report from earlier this week said that Nintendo shares dropped by “as much as 8.8%”.
This followed rumors that the Switch 2 console was delayed until next year. However, recent claims do suggest that the anticipated Switch 2 reveal is coming in June 2024.
