Gray Zone Warfare Will Have ‘Zero Silly, Stupid Weapon Skins’

If you’ve not been anywhere close to the Gray Zone Warfare space in recent weeks, you’d be forgiven for not knowing a massive update is on the way. It’s the most substantial update the game has ever had, and it’s coming at the end of March, tweaking, updating, and enhancing almost every inch of this open-world tactical shooter.

One thing that isn’t changing is how grounded this sandbox title is. During a recent developer video explaining the scope of the 0.4 update in Gray Zone Warfare, it was stressed that, even two years later, no ‘silly, stupid weapon skins’ are finding their way into the game.

Gray Zone Warfare Remains Realistic and Untainted

It has been a minute since MADFINGER released the developer video talking about some of the new customization and equipment elements coming with 0.4, the ‘Spearhead’ update in Gray Zone Warfare. But buried in the middle of the video is a nice tidbit that confirms the game is staying grounded.

When talking about the ‘badass’ unique weapon camo prints coming with 0.4, Lead Community Manager Jakub Vambersky explained there will be:

… zero silly, stupid weapon skins.

It’s a dig at games like Call of Duty, which are regularly chastized for featuring inane and mostly unwanted weapon skins, outfits, and other cosmetics, almost always in the name of some crossover bid with another brand. In recent years, shooters like Call of Duty have come under intense flak for featuring weird, out-of-place skins, and that’s not changing any time soon.

It has also become a feature (or problem) in games like Rainbow Six Siege, Battlefield 6, VALORANT, and Apex Legends. Other shooters, like Counter-Strike, are by no means new to the concept of weapon skins, but things typically don’t get too wild in Valve’s legendary first-person shooter.

In Gray Zone Warfare’s 0.4 update, players will get their hands on eight new weapons, a slew of unique ‘boss items’, more clothing and armour items, and hundreds of new weapon attachments and tactical doohickeys. It’s a fleshed-out, top-tier update that’s bursting with content, new ways to play, and quality-of-life improvements.

But no silly, stupid weapon skins.

Gray Zone Warfare’s 0.4 update will arrive globally on March 31, but it’ll be available to Supporter Edition owners from March 27.
