Sandfall Interactive never planned a happy ending for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 features multiple endings, but none offer a truly happy fairy-tale conclusion for the characters. This decision was intentional.
In a recent interview with IGN, Jennifer Svedberg-Yen stated that the team will never choose a canonical ending between the two available endings. She also explained that neither character is interested in storybook happy endings, which is why the team did not consider them during development.
“We never even considered really a true, happy ending. I think there was maybe a happier one possibly. You can see also in the way that the endings are edited, that one has a slightly more uplifting tone and one has a slightly darker tone,” she said. “Both are both good and bad. And it really just depends on whose perspective, whose good or whose happily-ever-after you are prioritizing.”
