Final Fantasy 14 director and veteran Square Enix employee Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida discusses the challenges younger generations face in connecting with the games.
Final Fantasy is the gateway series for many players entering the JRPG genre. Over the years, the series has had many critically acclaimed entries, and many consider certain games, such as Final Fantasy 7, their favorites of all time.
Final Fantasy Release Schedule Impacting Younger Players
In a YouTube video about the launch of Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy: A Realm Reborn on mobile, Yoshi P explained why he thinks younger players find it harder to connect with the franchise nowadays, given that releases are now more spread out than in earlier years.
“For younger generations – people who grew up naturally accustomed to action-based combat and online competitive play – the recent entries in the series may have been harder to engage with. Part of that is simply because I’m sorry to say… the release intervals for new titles have gotten longer, so some players haven’t really had the chance to connect with the series the way older fans did.”
Yoshi P hopes that Dissidia Duellum will help bring a community of younger players to the series. The game will be released on March 24, 2026, for iOS and Android devices. Insider Gaming will continue to provide any updates on the game’s release.
