A new announcement confirms that God of War: Laufey’s release date has been delayed by over three months, now arriving in May 2027.
Santa Monica Studio announced the game’s pre-order bonuses and game editions in September 2026, with the release date still sticking to what was revealed during San Diego Comic-Con 2026 in July, which was set for February 2027. However, for some reason, the developers will need to push that date back by over three months.
God of War: Laufey Delayed to May 20, 2027
A new post by Santa Monica Studios’ official X account (formerly Twitter) confirms that God of War: Laufey’s release has been delayed. The new date has been set as May 20, 2027. The developers have stated that they don’t take the excitement players have shown for granted and want to make the “most of each moment” until release to provide the finishing touches and bring the game “to its fullest potential”.
God of War: Laufey is the next big exclusive from PlayStation and the next chapter in the beloved God of War franchise. For the first time in the series, players follow the story of a character other than Kratos, and it’s none other than Faye, his wife, since the character entered Norse mythology.

The new story sees Faye awaken in a strange land after her death, and to save Kratos and Atreus, she must fight gods in the afterlife in a place known as Everywhen. There are a lot of ruthless gods with dangerous magic to fighting against, but Faye is also a warrior that doesn’t back down from a fight. God of War: Laufey is a PS5 exclusive title.
