A new sci-fi survival game is giving players a reason to pay attention to their emotions, with Neosis Echoes releasing its first official gameplay trailer on Wednesday, November 4.
Developed by independent studio Vectaris Interactive, Neosis Echoes is an open-world survival-craft action game set on the alien planet Varos. Its biggest gameplay hook is a system called Reactive Survival, which allows the player’s emotional state to influence the world around them.

That goes beyond simply affecting the player’s abilities. According to the developers, emotions can influence weather conditions, vegetation, encounters, and the types of opportunities and threats players face while exploring Varos.
The newly released trailer offers a first look at how that system works, alongside footage of exploration, combat, and base building.
Players will take control of Evan Draxell, who wakes up on Varos with no memory of his past. With the help of a robotic companion named K.I.T., he’ll need to gather resources, craft equipment, establish a base, and fight off hostile threats while uncovering the secrets of an artificial intelligence known as Monolith.
The developers refer to the relationship between the player’s emotions and the surrounding environment as The Emotional Loop. The idea is that the world can affect Evan’s emotional state, while his emotions can also change how the world behaves. It’s a central part of how Vectaris Interactive wants to distinguish its survival experience from other games in the genre.
Neosis Echoes is currently in pre-alpha development and is being made by a three-person team based in Strasbourg, France. The studio says development will continue as it expands the game’s systems and overall experience.
