Key details regarding the God of War TV series coming to Amazon Prime Video were shared at San Diego Comic-Con, after what has been a turbulent start to development.
Based on the PlayStation franchise, the God of War TV series was initially greenlit in December 2022, with scriptwriting commencing in January 2024. However, in October, it emerged that the series was “starting from scratch” after the departure of executive producers.
Although the show is in the early stages of development, work for the series is now on track, with new scripts being written, and showrunner Ronald D. Moore shared details at San Diego Comic-Con.
God of War TV Series Back on Track

In an interview with Collider, Moore revealed the current status of the series as being in the scriptwriting phase and that he was finding it “fascinating” to dig into the world of Kratos, where he has been impressed “with the breadth and the depth of mythology.”
God of War Game Director Cory Barlog appears to be directly involved with development, with Moore stating that he has had “several meetings” with him, which has helped enable Moore to “know what the 10 episodes [in season one] are.”
The God of War series will be closely intertwined with the 2018 game, though it won’t be a frame-by-frame remake; but the “characters and the spirit” will be kept, along with the general flow of the story.
Moore did not want to be drawn into how many series of the title are being prepared, despite confirming two seasons earlier this year, as he never tries to “get too far ahead of myself” and that they “don’t really talk about that.”
He was also tight-lipped on when cameras may begin rolling for the series, though it won’t be happening until 2026 at the earliest, but he didn’t put a definitive timeframe on whether it will be next year, or whether filming will start in 2027 and beyond.
