Nikita Buyanov, the head of the studio at Battlestate Games and Rant Gaming, has been posting more images and tidbits of information about his new game, Fragmentary Order. He has previously dubbed this an attempt to make the most realistic hardcore shooter ever concocted, and recently, he made a bold statement about the game.
On social media, Buyanov stressed that Escape from Tarkov, the spearhead, ten-year-old extraction shooter, was training compared to the next-level challenge of Fragmentary Order, which is multitudes above Tarkov in scope and scale.
Fragmentary Order is Becoming Tarkov’s Big Brother
Escape from Tarkov might have walked so that Fragmentary Order, Nikita Buyanov’s new game, can run. The sci-fi shooter is being developed right now by Rant Gaming, Buyanov’s other studio, and it’s taking shape quite nicely, it seems.
I spoke to Buyanov about Fragmentary Order a few weeks ago, and he showed me some exclusive images (some of which I can’t talk about), and everything is looking stellar. It’s poles apart from Escape from Tarkov in almost every way, from world-building and the base game engine to the innovative concepts that power the story behind ‘Frago’.
In a new post on social media, Buyanov revealed that those concepts extend to the development side of the game too. He wrote:
(Fragmentary Order) is something that I call next level challenge for me. Like everything was a training before, all these years.
By ‘everything’, he means projects like Escape from Tarkov, the at-times divisive extraction shooter that has become a staple of the gaming space and the figurehead at the top of the genre over the years. Last year, Escape from Tarkov hit a 1.0 state, finally launching after almost a decade of development, and it’s still evolving today.
From what we know about Fragmentary Order, it’s set to be a mind-bending sci-fi epic with some extraction traits set in the not-so-distant future. It’s a complex, twisting concept that has generated factions, set pieces, otherworldly locations, and a Marathon-like notion that you’re ‘remote-controlling’ your player character in devastated, desolate environments.
Fans of Escape from Tarkov are obviously interested, but this is a shooter that anyone with a taste for the genre should keep an eye on.
