As announced during Disney’s D23 presentation, a Kingdom Hearts anime series is coming soon to Disney+.
It’s been 25 years since the release of the original Kingdom Hearts game on the Sony PlayStation 2. At the time, the game’s premise was simple: blend together the action of Final Fantasy with the colorful world of Disney. The first game was a success, and more than a dozen releases later, the series has one of the most dedicated fan bases in the industry.
The series will also air on the Disney Channel. No premiere date has been announced yet.

Kingdom Hearts Anime Bringing Sora to Disney+
The world of Kingdom Hearts seems custom-made for anime, and Disney is no stranger to adapting its long-form IP into successful television series. In the ’90s, Disney gave new life to properties such as Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and The Lion King by adapting their worlds into more digestible TV series.
Over time, crossovers have become more common, and TV series have grown grander. Time will tell whether this is a faithful adaptation of one of the games or a bridge between releases, filling knowledge gaps and setting the stage for another major game release.
In any case, between this announcement and the announcement that the next mainline game in the franchise will be launching in late 2027, via a trailer that also revealed Pixar’s Coco as a featured world in Kingdom Hearts 4, fans of the Square Enix RPG series are eating good thanks to D23.
