Activision May One Day Make a Halo Game, It’s Claimed

XBOX has reportedly explored having Activision and Sledgehammer Games develop a Halo multiplayer game, but it canceled a prototype, and no game has been approved yet.

This latest report comes from Rebs Gaming on YouTube. In a recent upload, Rebs explores how much outsourcing went into developing Halo: Campaign Evolved and suggests that the franchise’s future will rely heavily on it.

As the video continued on? Rebs discusses a rumor that the next Halo game, code-named Project Ecker, will be a multiplayer-focused experience. Following a rumor that Microsoft explored an Activision-backed Halo multiplayer game with Sledgehammer. Rebs says a source approached him and explained the proposal included Sledgehammer Games pitching in on development. Activision reportedly canceled the early prototype in July, but talks may continue.

It started last month, when gaming journalist and insider Jez Corden said he heard a rumor that Microsoft might have Activision develop Halo games. A few weeks later, I spoke to a source who previously sent me a bunch of Campaign Evolved information that turned out to be 100% accurate. They told me that Microsoft is exploring a proposition to have Activision help develop Halo games, which includes having Sledgehammer Games help develop a Halo multiplayer game.

They also said that Activision started testing a prototype for a Halo pitch in June. Apparently it was in the blockout phase, and only basic gameplay mechanics such as player movement were tested. However, I’m told they canceled it in early July. Canceling the pitch prototype does not mean Activision won’t develop Halo games. According to my source, Microsoft is still exploring the proposition, but they have not greenlit anything yet.

Halo was once the cornerstone IP of XBOX. Campaign Evolved was the first Halo game to be playable on a PlayStation platform. Still, since then, XBOX has changed its approach to exclusives. It is currently unknown what is next for the Halo franchise.
