Halo Campaign Evolved Not Having PvP Was ‘Poor Planning’, Says Franchise Creator

The co-creator of Halo has shared his thoughts on Campaign Evolved, stating that the lack of split-screen multiplayer for PvP was due to “lack of oversight and poor planning”.

It has been over two weeks since the remake of the first Halo title has been released and the response has been mixed. Players are really happy about the new visuals and other extras the developers have included, but have shared disappointment that the game does not feature the original’s PvP mechanic. Now, the franchise creator has spoken on the same topic.

Halo Creator Shares His Gripes with Halo Campaign Evolved

Marcus Lehto, the co-creator of Halo,o recently shared his views on Campaign Evolved on X (formerly Twitter). Lehto first spoke about how he loved his playthrough, calling it a blast from his past and a fresh re-envisioning of the game he helped create. He concluded that he didn’t think it was perfect, but definitely fun.

Lehto then went on to speak about his gripes, which were over two factors: lack of multiplayer PvP and the Forerunner Aesthetic. About the multiplayer part, Lehto says, “Split-screen MP in Campaign Evolved should have been included. There’s little excuse aside from lack of oversight and poor planning that led to this misstep. So sad this wasn’t included.”

Coming to the Forerunner stuff, Lehto stated that he understood why they tightened the aesthetic, as his team was “all over the place back in 2000.” However, he feels that “Halo Studios went too far in the wrong direction.” Lehto added that “While Forerunner tech was metal (not stone) it was also ancient, vast, alive, and a tomb to the horrors that lurked within. It had seen hundreds of millennia of conflict. Yet the game shows it as shiny metal that looks like it was built a few years ago.”
