It seems that scammers are using GTA 6’s hype to trap unsuspecting players, offering fake beta keys among other things.
GTA 6 is hands down one of the hottest things right now in all of gaming, and gamers would do anything to get an early look at one of the most anticipated titles out there. However, scammers seem to be taking advantage of the situation, using various methods to trap individuals and spread malware, adware, phish their accounts, and more.
Different Types of GTA 6 Scams Surface Online
A recent report from NordVPN (via IGN) highlights several types of online scams targeting GTA 6 players. These scams include fake beta keys, trojanized repacks, Android adware, and phishing attempts aimed at Rockstar Social Club accounts.
Fake PS5 and XBOX Series X/S GTA Beta Ads
One of these scams involves fraudulent GTA 6 beta keys, in which players encounter ads claiming to offer fake keys for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The scammers are taking it a step further by incorporating an “Are you a bot?” verification step to fool unsuspecting victims. After this, they typically require players to sign up for paid subscription services, which download “potentially unwanted applications or ‘PUAs’.
Fake Game Installers with Malware
Trojanized repacks go a step further by providing players with a game installer that appears highly authentic in its design. However, as soon as “Setup.exe” begins to run, the user can be exploited via the launcher link, resulting in the installation of malicious files. This situation could result in malware being downloaded that modifies the device’s memory, retrieves additional malware, and connects to external servers.

Fake GTA 6 Beta Android Apps
Android users should be cautious about a GTA 6 scam involving fake apps labeled “GTA 6 Beta.” These apps are not actual games and include a “Download OBB” button that redirects users to a website called “fizzyacerbitymellow.com.” This domain has a history of stealing personal information, distributing banking trojans, adware, and installing ransomware on both Windows and Android devices.
Rockstar Social Club Account Phishing
Finally, it’s important to be aware of phishing scams that exploit the excitement surrounding GTA 6. These scammers often promise access to a beta version in order to steal users’ account details and other personal information. Players should be cautious, as these scams can sometimes be found on platforms like GitHub and Vercel.
Players should note that there is no official GTA 6 beta, and all of these ads are just scams trying to take you for a ride. The only official information we have from Rockstar currently is that GTA 6 preorders go live on June 25.
