Playground Games says Fable’s combat will keep the series’ accessible feel while adding targeted attacks, spells, and enemy interactions.
The Fable reboot will finally launch on February 23, 2027. As the game takes shape, Playground Games representatives are opening up about the combat system. The hope is to keep the game accessible, as other titles in the franchise have been, while also giving players more options than brute-forcing your way through everything.
Fable Won’t Make Every Quest a Fight, Devs Say

In a recent interview with Edge magazine (via GamesRadar+), Fable’s associate directors Craig Littler and Will Kennedy discussed how they plan to honor Fable’s legacy by keeping it approachable while adding complexity and nuance to combat.
For example, if you aim your arrow at an undead enemy’s leg, it will fall to the ground but keep crawling toward you. If you decapitate them, they will wander around, not knowing where to go.
Additionally, they explained that they don’t want everything to rely on fighting. Instead, some quests will rely on certain dialogue choices or the game’s revamped reputation system.
“There are quests that are much broader,” said Littler. “More exploration, even a puzzle or two along the way. One of the things we’re really proud about is the variety of activities and how they all harmonize to tell a story that you feel really involved in.”
As the release date approaches, Insider Gaming will continue to monitor all things Fable and report updates as more information becomes available.
