Fable is Reportedly ‘Uncomfortably’ Over Budget

A new report has revealed that Playground Games has gone way over budget with its upcoming title, Fable.

Fable has experienced several delays since its initial announcement. The first trailer was released in 2023, but the game’s launch has been postponed from 2025 to 2026, and now to 2027. Along with these delays, it appears that Playground Games may have exceeded their budget for the upcoming titles.

God of War Laufey Arriving a Day Ahead of Fable’s Early Access Release

Recent information from a report by WindowsCentral reveals that Fable has exceeded its budget. The report initially discusses Xbox’s strategy of expanding its multiplatform offerings before shifting focus back to exclusive titles. It was revealed that any games previously announced as multiplatform will maintain that status. Among these multiplatform titles are Fable, Halo, and others. While Xbox could potentially cancel future Halo releases on PlayStation 5, it seems “the same cannot be said for the next Fable,” as sources indicate that its development has gone “uncomfortably” over budget.

One detail that could affect the game’s release on PS5 is the newly announced launch date for God of War: Laufey, which is set to arrive just one day before the early access for Fable begins. This timing is likely to significantly impact the multiplatform strategy, as most PS5 owners will probably choose to play Santa Monica’s upcoming title first before purchasing Fable. The report does not provide any additional information for Fable, other than noting that the game has exceeded its budget.

  • As someone with all of the platforms… I know I sure as Hell will be playing Fable over Gal of War 100%!! I can’t wait for Fable, it looks epic!

  • I’ve never bought a God of War game (just not for me). I’m very much looking forward to Fable – can’t wait to play it!!! 🎮

  • Fable is gonna be massive flop for Microsoft. No game that spends this long under development ever turns out to be a good game.
