GSC Game World has revealed that STALKER 2‘s first major expansion, Cost of Hope, is coming to all platforms on August 20. This news was announced alongside a new trailer for the expansion, which is set to broaden the base game’s story and add new, never-before-seen areas to The Zone.
The highly anticipated expansion comes almost two years after the game hit the market. It has been evolving ever since, but this major expansion, and the game’s massive 2.0 update, are on the horizon.
Cost of Hope Launches Soon
STALKER fans worldwide are preparing to dive headlong into Heart of Chornobyl’s 2.0 update and the Cost of Hope expansion. This massive piece of DLC will expand the base game immeasurably, adding ‘dozens of hours’ of content, allowing players to enter areas of The Zone that they’ve never been able to in almost 20 years of STALKER history.
In a press release, the team at GSC Game World prefaced the Cost of Hope expansion:
In Cost of Hope, players once again step into the role of Skif — the protagonist of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl — as a mysterious PDA signal draws him into events unfolding alongside the main game’s story. Explore uncharted locations, encounter unexpected allies and enemies, discover powerful weapons, and experience a gripping new story.
With dozens of hours of content, your choices will shape the future of the Zone in this major new chapter of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. saga.
The 2.0 update that’s set to hit STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl at the same time as Cost of Hope will land with an upgrade to a new version of Unreal Engine 5, as well as give the game ‘a variety of new content and improvements.’ This 2.0 update will be free for all existing owners, while Cost of Hope will have a premium price tag.
