Capcom has been killing it with Resident Evil games in the last few years, and there’s no sign of the franchise stopping. The one thing that fans will argue the company has lost is the art of a new RE spin-off, but there’s a reason.
If my maths is right, the last new Resident Evil spin-off with any sort of single-player emphasis was the disastrous Umbrella Corps—seriously, let us never speak of it again. But the last lore-heavy entry was probably Resident Evil: Revelations 2 in 2015.
Since then, it’s been a long line of new mainline games, remakes, and unsuccessful multiplayer games.
New Resident Evil Spin-Off Games Not Happening Anytime Soon

In an interview with Nintendo Everything, Capcom producer Masachika Kawata talked about RE spin-offs, in particular, why they’ve been absent for so long:
“Maybe there are a lot of people out there who would like to see more spinoff titles or such, but honestly, the team is giving everything it has right now, working on things like our new entries like Requiem or remakes. So honestly, at the moment, that’s where our efforts [are] being focused. We are so focused on pouring our energy into that, I don’t think there’s a whole lot left right now for a spinoff.”
Capcom is a colossal studio working on a lot more than just Resident Evil games: Monster Hunter, Pragmata, and Onimusha: Way of the Sword, to name some other recent examples.

Resident Evil is the studio’s biggest franchise, and Requiem has been one of 2026’s biggest successes. People have been begging for a Code Veronica remake for years, and it’s finally happening.
With so much effort going into rumored DLCs, and presumably Resident Evil 10 and more remakes—with Resident Evil 1 reportedly in development—it means we likely won’t get a new spin-off for a while.
Should Capcom change tack and focus less on remakes and opt for a spin-off game? Let us know through the official Insider Gaming Discord Server.
