Epic Games Claims Apple is Stalling Store Launch Over Button Similarities

In a new post on X today, the Epic Games Newsroom claimed that Apple is delaying the Epic Games Store launch in the EU due to Epic’s “Install” button.

Today’s post says that Apple felt “the design and position of Epic’s ‘Install’ button is too similar to Apple’s ‘Get’ button.” Further, Epic claims that Apple also found the “In-app purchases” label too similar to its own.

Epic does say that “we’ve shared our concerns with the European Commission.” It also reiterated that without interference, the launch window still aims for “the next couple months.” which it

Epic wants to bring the Epic Games Store and Fortnite to iOS in the EU this year, as previously announced in February 2024. It stated that “Epic Games Sweden AB will operate the mobile Epic Games Store and Fortnite in Europe, with the Store team leading development.”

That announcement shortly followed a series of court battles between Epic Games and Apple. Apple ultimately pursued $73 million from Epic Games for legal costs.

Later in March, Apple also shut down and then reinstated an Epic Games developer account, though that did not delay plans either. Epic Games also reiterated interest in iOS and Android launches for 2024.

In today’s claims, Epic Games called Apple’s latest store launch rejection “arbitrary, obstructive, and in violation of the DMA.”

Most recently, Fortnite devs confirmed a Pirates of the Caribbean event is coming on July 19, 2024, with the Cursed Sails Pass.
