In a post on social media, Embark Studios‘ Oscar Lundberg revealed an all-new effort to bolster esports centered around The Finals, the high-octane first-person shooter from the studio that also brought you ARC Raiders.
The Finals was released in 2023, and given the inherent competitive nature of the game, it has always fostered an esports vibe. However, Lundberg has stressed that this is the start of an ‘internal, dedicated team to support that.’
The Finals Esports Are Getting More Structured
In his recent post on social media, Embark Studios’ Oscar ‘Schnobben’ Lundberg wrote:
Cat’s out of the bag, my friends! As of last Friday, Janice and I have new roles and new responsibilities on THE FINALS.
We’re serious about the future of THE FINALS, and esports has a real place in it. This is the start of an internal, dedicated, team to support that.
Don’t worry though: you’re not getting rid of me, I’m not going anywhere.
I’ll still do our weekly community streams, hang out on Discord and Twitch, talk to you, enjoy the memes, take the feedback, and do my best to represent all of you in our incredible community.
In a screenshot, he revealed that he’s moved on from being a Community Lead and is now the Competitive Operations Lead, specializing in the development of The Finals.
Lundberg said he’s looking forward to connecting with fans at this year’s Grand Major tournament, which promises to be ‘grander than ever’.
It was back in April that Embark Studios lifted the lid on TGM26, which debuted last year at DreamHack Stockholm and welcomed sixteen of the world’s strongest The Finals teams. Later this year, DreamHack Stockholm will land at the end of November, boasting a $200,000 prize pool.
It’ll be the culmination of an entire year of competitive play, and The Finals fans are excited.
