Kicking off the LEC Roadtrip in Madrid and the final week of the LEC Spring regular season, G2 Esports dominated Karmine Corp 2-0.
The reigning LEC champions and First Stand finalists appear to have returned to form just in time, ending KCorp’s six-series undefeated streak.
After trying to recover from their busy schedule, G2 had a tough start to the split, losing to Fnatic and Team Vitality.
However, now G2 is 5-2 with two more matches to play and a very good chance of finishing in the top four, earning a crucial slot in the Spring Playoffs Upper Bracket.
G2 Esports Outclass KCorp
After the electric, five-game series between these two in the LEC Versus final, LEC fans have patiently been waiting for their next encounter.
There were exciting match-ups all across the board, but the difference came in the clash between the league’s new generation of elite junglers: G2’s Rudy ‘SkewMond’ Semaan and KCorp’s Martin ‘Yike’ Sundelin.
Skewmond made sure he quickly got the upper hand, recalling quickly in his first clear to go an item up, then catch Yike’s routine invade for First Blood.
Yike made up for his mistake with a clean dive bot to donate a double kill to Caliste ‘Caliste’ Henry-Hennebert.
However, those would be the only kills KCorp would find in Game 1, as Skewmond and his support, Lampros ‘Labrov’ Papoutsakis, relentlessly tracked down Yike with perfect counterganks.
G2 were playing very effectively. They chunked down Yike before Baron, forcing him to Pantheon ult in on low health to try and steal, only for G2 to peel off the objective and immediately engage on his helpless teammates.
In the second match, KCorp responded well with a more proactive comp to help them build an early lead rather than waiting to scale.
With three Drakes and a 2k gold advantage, it looked like KCorp would force a third and final match.
But suddenly, G2 found four kills on the map and miraculously flipped the script.
It all started with G2 throwing everything at Caliste, knowing he had only 10 seconds before his Flash was back up. And Skewmond cleaned up another kill with a beautiful snipe using Olaf’s axe.
Despite KCorp’s early lead, Skewmond was smashing Yike with an individual gold lead of more than 3k.
In the blink of an eye, G2 had turned the game around and clinically closed out the game for a huge 2-0 victory against their previously undefeated rivals.
