Dying Light: The Beast Restored Land Finally Lets You Beat The Apocalypse

Dying Light: The Beast is one of the most phenomenal open-world zombie-slaying experiences released in recent years. When it dropped last September, it earned top marks from Insider Gaming, and it went on to impress millions of gamers worldwide. But the game that brought Kyle Crane back to our screens is only just getting started.

Techland has just shadowdropped Dying Light: The Beast Restored Land, an all-new experience that boosts the game’s difficulty but makes it ultimately possible to rid Castor Woods of the zombie infection, once and for all.

You won’t want to miss this.

What is Dying Light: The Beast Restored Land?

Restored Land is a new Dying Light: The Beast experience that stands as a ‘side mode’ away from the core campaign platform. In Restored Land, everything is finite, from the resources and the side content to the undead enemies that roam Castor Woods.

That’s right – in Restored Land, you can actually eliminate every single zombie in the game. It’s all about taking back the environment from the cold grip of the undead, and everything has permanent consequences. When you loot a location, those resources are gone for good. Events that were once repeatable now become single actions.

And most importantly, when you kill zombies, they’ll stay dead, allowing you to recover regions from the infected and encourage survivors to return and resettle.

We caught up with Techland regarding Restored Land, and Tymon Smektala, the franchise director, said that the Restored Land update is immense in scope and scale:

It’s almost incomparable to the game that was released in September.

The game’s director, Nathan Lemaire, explained how it’s all about taking the world of Castor Words and flipping the script:

You are shaping the world as the player.

Restored Land is all about a gritty, realistic, and grounded experience. It’s more survival-based, which means you need to eat and drink, and tools like your torch will only work if you have enough batteries to power them. As you ‘Restore the Land’, you’ll find that enemies are tougher, resources are scarcer, but the game is much richer for it.

But there’s so much more than just that coming with Restored Lands.

This is a new SKU; a new version of the game. Techland has confirmed that Restored Lands, which will be free for existing owners of the game, will introduce:

  • Competitive vehicle-based races called Roadkill Rallies that are ‘destruction derby’ by nature
  • An option to enable One Life mode that wipes your save on death
  • Leaderboards in both Restored Land and Roadkill Rallies, to prove that you’re the best of the best
  • 33 new quest encounters, adding incredible depth to the game’s narrative
  • Additions to Co-op to contextualize actions and make it easier to collaborate
  • High-risk zombie encounters and improvements to Special Infected
  • 7 new Trophies/Achievements exclusive to Restored Lands

This is one hell of an update, and what’s better, it’s a side mode, which means you can play Restored Land while keeping your core save intact.

Dying Light: The Beast Restored Land is available right now on all platforms.
