Dying Light Community Rallies To Support Super Fan’s Cancer Battle

In recent days, the Dying Light community has come to life to support a fan battling thyroid cancer. In a post on social media, Christine ‘GamerMom1969’ Ryan revealed that she has critical surgery looming and is struggling with the financial weight of her fight. Ryan, who is a beloved member of the Dying Light community, asked those around her for support.

What followed this request was an outpouring of care and consideration, with many Dying Light fans contributing to Ryan’s cause. In just a few days, Ryan has managed to raise more than $3,000 via a crowdfunding platform, 10% of which came from Dying Light’s Roger Craig Smith, the actor behind Kyle Crane.

End of the World Brings the Start of the Community

Dying Light is a series that tells the tale of the end of the world. It’s also a franchise rooted in the nature of surviving said ending, and joining forces with the remnants of humanity to overcome a shattered planet and carve out a way of life in what’s left.

In the darkest of times, people come together. That’s what has happened recently in the Dying Light community, with one dedicated super-fan having her story heard by thousands, many of whom have selflessly rushed to provide aid.

Christine Ryan, known as GamerMom1969, kickstarted a crowdfunding campaign recently to help raise funds to support her cancer surgery. She recently wrote on social media:

Hi my (Dying Light) peeps! Please consider helping me raise money for my cancer expenses! If you cannot donate, please share with your followers! I’m sorry to ask but i’m already financially screwed and haven’t had the second surgery yet.

On the crowdfunding campaign, she went a little deeper:

I have no savings and was on short term disability for the first surgery, which I am still recovering from. And in a few months time, I have another surgery looming to remove my Thyroid completely. This will tax me financially to say the least.

I’m asking for help to raise money so that I can be able to pay my rent and other bills while recovering from this surgery.

It appears that Techland, the developer behind Dying Light, directly contributed more than $2,000 to the cause, with a massive donation being made by one Júlia Nadolska-Félix, credited in Dying Light: The Beast as an office administrator at the firm.

Roger Craig Smith, the actor behind the iconic Kyle Crane, also made a sizeable donation of $300 to support Ryan’s upcoming surgery.

Across the gaming space, we often see stories like this emerge. Using these communities for such wholesome endeavours is always a beautiful thing. One of the best examples is the Fallout for Hope campaign, an annual mission to raise money for charity, which has been a roaring success in recent years.

It always seems like the games with the darkest concepts boast the most heartwarming communities.
