‘Need For Seat’ is the Latest Viral Hit Where Players Race in Office Chairs

A new game called ‘Need for Seat’ has gone viral for its wacky design, in which players race around offices in their office chairs.

The trailer for the game went viral thanks to Indie Game Joe (who we’re collaborating with for the Insider Gaming Showcase on May 28th), who finds indie games with unique, weird, and wonderful ideas.

Posting to his X, Indie Game Joe said, “This indie team is making a kart racing game where your vehicle is an office chair – Drift office chairs through hallways – Each chair & driver has unique perks – The longer you drift, the faster you go”

As of the time of writing, Indie Game Joe’s tweet has gained over 8000 likes, with nearly one million impressions.

The game’s Steam page says, “Grab your chair and fasten your shoelace! Race opponents and take the 1st place before they do. Drift through sharp corners, build up boost, and use random power-ups from Lucky Boxes to turn the race into pure chaos.”

It continues, “Drift = speed! Sharp turns everywhere? No problem. Use drifting to slide smoothly through tight corners and keep your momentum. The longer you drift, the better it gets…”

The game also has Lucky Box Power-Ups similar to games like Mario Kart, adding more madness to the already wacky game. In addition, each chair and driver also has their own unique perks and style, with stats including Top Speed, Acceleration, Boost Speed, Normal Turn Speed, and Drift Turn Speed… So it seems like there’s going to be some Meta picks for the best office racer.

You can wishlist Need for Seat on the game’s official Steam page here.

It’s currently unclear if the game will later launch for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X.

Will you be wishlisting Need for Seat and giving the game a go when it releases? Are you still playing Marathon? Let us know your thoughts about the game on the Insider Gaming Discord server.
