The original creator of the Cyberpunk universe may have given away information on a new Chicago-like city being featured in the sequel.
Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel to Feature Night City and Another Chicago-Like City
Spotted by Polish publication CD-Action, Mike Pondsmith, the original creator of the Cyberpunk universe, recently appeared for an interview on the TVGRY channel for the Digital Dragons 2025 event. During this interview, Pondsmith touched on the topic of the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel featuring a new city inspired by a ‘Chicago Gone Wrong’ setting.
Pondsmith was asked if he was as involved with the sequel, Project Orion, as he was with Cyberpunk 2077. He replied, “Not as involved directly,” but he gets to see the scripts, interact with different departments working on the game, check out new Cyberware, and more. He also spends a lot of time with the environment guys for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, and that’s where the new city comes in.
Pondsmith shared that “there’s another city we visit” in Project Orion, the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, and it seems it was an accidental slip, as he immediately states he can’t share “any more than that”. He explained that Night City still exists, but there is another city that players will explore in the new game. Pondsmith stated that he understands what the environment guys are going with the new city, which gave him more of a ‘Chicago Gone Wrong’ feel rather than a ‘Bladerunner’ vibe. He also added that he sees this city “working” for the upcoming game.
In other news, Switch 2 Joy-Cons can be used to swing Katanas in Cyberpunk 2077. Also, the developers are working on the most realistic and reactive crowd system for the sequel.
