Pearl Abyss has added Denuvo Anti-Tamper to Crimson Desert, and fans don’t seem to be happy about the decision.
Crimson Desert is all set to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in a week on March 19, 2026, and they have released a launch trailer to build hype today. However, it seems the developers have also added third-party DRM to the game just a week before it arrives.
Crimson Desert Gets Denuvo A Week Ahead of Launch, and Some Fans Aren’t Happy
Spotted by The Gamer, if you head over to SteamDB and see Crimson Desert’s update history, you will see that the latest change today stated: “Added 3rd-Party DRM – Denuvi Anti-tamper, 5 different PC within a day machine activation limit.” This has seemingly sent some fans into a frenzy, with a full-fledged Steam discussion about players disappointed with the decision.
For those unaware, Denuvo Anti-tamper is software designed to prevent games from being pirated or cracked. However, there are claims that this software can affect a game’s performance, including reduced FPS, stuttering, and more. At the same time, some claim that it doesn’t impact the game.
Moreover, Pearl Abyss made several other changes to Crimson Desert’s Steam store listing, including changes to the store description, the trailers, screenshots, and some assets.
