For the first time in 13 years, Call of Duty will release on a Nintendo platform. As part of the game’s unveiling on Thursday, Activision confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2.
To bring the game to Nintendo Switch 2, Infinity Ward has partnered with Digital Legends to develop a native Modern Warfare 4 experience for the console.
The announcement is significant because Activision isn’t treating the Switch 2 version as a cloud-streamed release or scaled-back port. Instead, the company says the game is being built natively for the platform alongside versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
As mentioned, it also marks the first mainline Call of Duty release on a Nintendo platform in 13 years. The last title to launch on Nintendo hardware was Call of Duty: Ghosts on the Wii U back in 2013.
Activision says Modern Warfare 4 is being developed exclusively for current-generation systems, with Infinity Ward promising a major leap in technical fidelity, responsiveness, immersion, and scale. The fact that Nintendo Switch 2 is included in that lineup could offer one of the clearest indications yet of the console’s capabilities ahead of launch.
Beyond platform news, Modern Warfare 4 features a campaign centered on a global conflict in Korea, a rebuilt DMZ extraction experience, and major multiplayer changes, including new gunplay systems, dynamic battlefields, and the return of Classic Prestige.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches globally on October 23, 2026.
