Bungie has revealed its plans for the next chapter of the studio, and Destiny remains at the heart of its future despite Destiny 2 receiving its final major update just a few months ago.
The first step in continuing Destiny’s legacy will be restoring vaulted content to Destiny 2, with entire campaigns, destinations, and raids set to return to the game. In doing so, Bungie is looking to bring back much of the content that has been removed over the years and restore Destiny 2 to a more complete experience, all while looking towards the franchise’s future.
Destiny Is “Foundational To Bungie’s Future”
Bungie outlined its plans in a recent blog post, acknowledging the backlash surrounding its decision to bring Destiny 2 to an apparent close with the Monuments of Triumph update.
Hundreds of thousands of fans rallied around the franchise, with many even signing a petition calling for Destiny 3 to enter development. Bungie has now acknowledged those efforts, stating that “your voices mattered, and the way you showed up made a real impact.”
As a result, Bungie is shifting its focus towards preserving Destiny’s legacy, beginning with the restoration of content that has been vaulted over the years. The studio has historically removed older content from Destiny 2 to make room for new experiences, a practice that has remained a contentious topic among the game’s community.
That approach is now being reversed, with Bungie confirming that vaulted content will begin making its way back into Destiny 2. However, the studio stressed that this won’t happen overnight, as each piece of returning content needs to meet the “stability and gameplay standards of Destiny 2 today.”
While Bungie hasn’t revealed exactly what comes next beyond Destiny 2, it did provide a hint at its longer-term plans. The studio described restoring Destiny 2 as the “first step to lay the foundation” for new stories and games, as they work towards building a “stronger long-term future for Destiny.”
