5. Baldur’s Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 has become the smash hit of 2023 and few expected it to take off quite like it has. If you’re into RPGs and games such as Diablo and Dungeons and Dragons, this is a great game to jump into with friends and before you know it you will have hundreds of hours out into it.

4. Mortal Kombat 1
When it comes to multiplayer games, fighting games have long been one of the most popular genres due to the competitive nature and skill required to beat your opponent to a pulp. Fans of fighting games were in for a treat during these 12 months, with Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 releasing in 2023 and Tekken 8 due in early 2024. Critic scores suggest that Street Fighter 6 is the better game, but there is something special about Mortal Kombat 1 and it will likely go down in history as one of the best entries in the series. This is the second time the series has been rebooted and the future looks bright for the 30-year-old gory fighting franchise.
3. It Takes Two
Couch co-op has largely been left in the past in favor of online competitive gaming, but it is still great to sit down with a friend or family member and play a game together, and It Takes Two is one of the best co-op games of modern times whether you’re playing local or online. From the same developer behind A Way Out, It Takes Two is multiplayer only and can’t be played as a single-player experience. It Takes Two won the 2021 Game of the Year at The Game Awards and has sold over 10 million copies.

2. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III/Warzone 2.0
For 20 years Call of Duty has reigned supreme as the biggest competitive FPS franchise in gaming and it still shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. The latest entry, Modern Warfare III looks to be a great game and it could be a sign the series is continuing to move in the right direction. If the battle royale genre is more your thing, Warzone offers an adrenaline-filled experience that is closely tied to the main game in terms of updates and new content.

Fortnite took the world by storm between 2017-2019, quickly becoming the biggest game in the world with millions of players dropping onto the map to try and earn a Victory Royale. In more recent times Epic Games has put a focus on user-generated content and followed in the footsteps of Roblox and Minecraft by making Fortnite a creative sandbox, offering an endless amount of possibilities and content to explore. Fortnite looks set to return to Chapter 1 in a special month-long season, so if you have fond memories of the good old days, it’s time to board the Battle Bus once again and drop into some matches with your friends.
