Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 Will Introduce First Official Modding Tools

In a new community update on Steam, Larian Studios revealed that Patch 7 will introduce official modding tools into Baldur’s Gate 3.

The post explains that players can “change up visuals, animations, sounds, stats, and more to overhaul Baldur’s Gate 3.” But the devs’ announcement carefully uses the phrase “begin introducing.” So, players may not have access to every tool at first, and Larian could add even more later on.

Either way, modding will prove invaluable for the gargantuan fanbase, since Larian Studios isn’t interested in developing another Baldur’s Gate game. The devs reiterated that sentiment in today’s community update. Hopefully, modding tools will eventually allow players to make their own stories.

Larian Studios also teased fans with a variety of other details about the future of Baldur’s Gate 3, beyond Patch 7.

The devs revealed they are “actively working on bringing Crossplay and a Photo Mode to Baldur’s Gate 3.” But they also made it clear that fans shouldn’t expect these features anytime soon. Crossplay would certainly be a massive win, especially after resolving those devastating Xbox save state bugs for most.

In fact, Patch 7 is so ambitious, that Larian Studios also confirmed the update will have a closed beta on PC. While the devs didn’t offer concrete dates for the beta, fans will get more details “in the coming weeks”. That should include when the closed beta is coming, and how long it will run.

Larian Studios also mentioned that Patch 7 will fix up more bugs and improve evil endings. That includes fresh cinematics and more. The community update even gave fans a small glimpse at one of the amusingly dark outcomes.
