Hasbro Wants Another Baldur’s Gate Game, But Larian Won’t be the Developer

In a new interview, Hasbro’s CEO, Senior Vice President of Digital Strategy and Licensing for Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, said they are currently looking at partners for its next Baldur’s Gate game.

In an interview with PCGamer, Evans said, “We’re now talking to lots of partners and being approached by a lot of partners who are embracing the challenge of, what does the future of the Baldur’s Gate franchise look like?”

He continued, ” “So we certainly hope that it’s not another 25 years, as it was from Baldur’s Gate 2 to 3, before we answer that. But we’re going to take our time and find the right partner, the right approach, and the right product that could represent the future of Baldur’s Gate. We take that very, very seriously, as we do with all of our decisions around our portfolio. We don’t rush into decisions as to who to partner with on products or what products we should be considering.”

In March 2023, Larian Studios’ Swen Vincke took to the stage at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco said that Larian will be ‘moving away from Dungeons & Dragons entirely’ and won’t be releasing any expansions or major content for Baldur’s Gate 3 – and Baldur’s Gate 4 is absolutely not happening.

Just last week, actors from Baldur’s Gate 3 expressed interest in a sequel. One such actor included Newbon, the actor who played iconic rogue Astarion, who said they would like to reprise that role in particular. They explained that “I feel I’m not done with him,” and continued that “hopefully at some point I’m going to reprise him.”

Whatever the future holds for Baldur’s Gate is uncertain, but it does look like we could be getting one at some point in the future – the question is, though – who would you like to develop it?
