Larian Not Planning Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC or Sequel

Larian Studios’ Swen Vincke took to the stage at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco today to make a shock announcement. He explained that Larian will be ‘moving away from Dungeons & Dragons entirely’ and won’t be releasing any expansions or major content for Baldur’s Gate 3 – and Baldur’s Gate 4 is absolutely not happening.

Vincke’s message – which was delivered on a panel at GDC – was relayed by IGN. It was confirmed that Larian Studios won’t have anything to do with Dungeons & Dragons moving forward and will let Wizards of the Coast handle any further production in that universe. Instead, Larian Studios will pivot and focus on ‘something new’.

This comes as a huge surprise given the rampant success of Baldur’s Gate 3, which has received critical acclaim and scooped many awards since it was released in the latter half of 2023, some twenty years after its predecessor was released.

Larian Studios has supported Baldur’s Gate 3 since the moment it was released and has listened to the community when making updates to the game, which as of February had sold ‘way more’ than 10 million copies.
