EA and BioWare are set to take Anthem completely offline when it shuts down the servers in January.
In an updated posted on the game’s official website, it was announced that Anthem’s servers will be shut down on January 12, 2026. The decision brings an end to a game that released in February 2019.
“This means that the game will still be playable online for the next 180+ days,” EA said. “As of today, you can no longer purchase in-game premium currency, but you can still use your remaining balance until the servers go offline.
“We deeply appreciate your dedication, passion and support over the years and we’d like to thank you for that.”

In addition to the announcement, the developers posted a short FAQ to clarify various concerns the community might have. Regarding why it can’t be played offline, EA says that Anthem “was designed to be an online-only title so once the servers go offline, the game will no longer be playable.”
The game will remain available via the EA Play library until August 15, when it will be removed from the playlist. For those who already own the game but may have it uninstalled, it will still be installable and playable until January 12.
Lastly, with all of the recent layoffs across the industry, EA also says that sunsetting Anthem won’t result in any new layoffs at the studio.
