Two weeks ago, AMD announced the launch of its latest graphics card: the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT. With the announcement of the new card came the reveal that the AMD Radeon RX 9060 XT will be available in both an 8GB and 16GB variant.
While many have questioned why AMD would release two versions where the only difference is the VRAM and the price—the 8GB is $50 cheaper—the company’s Chief Architect believes the market justifies the release.
In a recent interview with Mobile01, AMD’s Frank Azor said that while the company expects the 16GB to be the more popular of the two, there are still those that will go for the 8GB version.
“In addition, up to now, most gamers still play at 1080p resolution, so we have positioned the 8GB version as a 1080p graphics card, but the only difference between it and the 16GB version is the display memory capacity,” Azor said via translation. “The GPU part is exactly the same.”
Azor added that both versions will support newer features such as AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 4, ray tracing, and more.
“This is really a very competitive solution in the market if the gamer does not want to upgrade to 1440p resolution,” he said.
