In a recent video discussing the intricacies of Assassin’s Creed Red, prominent leaker ‘j0nathan’ spoke about some key details for the upcoming open-world title from Ubisoft. He revealed an array of insider information that helps us better understand what Assassin’s Creed Red will look like and – more importantly – how it’ll feel to play.
This news comes just one day after Insider Gaming exclusively revealed the identity of Assassin’s Creed Red’s dual protagonists – including Yasuke, a unique African bodyguard turned Samurai who actually existed.
What’s Happening With AC Red?
In j0nathan’s video, several important new details are revealed. For instance, it’s stressed that AC Red will feature ‘fewer map markers’, leaning more into actively exploring the map to discover objectives. That has been an optional feature in Assassin’s Creed since Origins, but it might be that Ubisoft is pivoting more towards making it an inherent mechanic.

Reportedly, Assassin’s Creed Red’s map will be ‘larger than Valhalla’s but smaller than Odyssey’s’, which means it will be pretty huge, likely incorporating a vast amount of Japan.
There’s also a wide range of new gameplay mechanics that were leaked by j0nathan in his video:
- Grapple hook tools (like Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima)
- Different stances, with the ability to go prone and crawl through grass
- Better stealth, with the player being able to make use of darkness and create dark spots to hide in the shadows
- NPCs can defend themselves a lot better than ever before
- There will be a feature that will allow the player to ‘recruit’ certain enemies to function as spies
- Naoi (the female protagonist) will wield kunai, shuriken, smoke bombs, and bells, likely suggesting she’ll be a much more agile, stealthier character than Yasuke, who historically is reported as being strong – even being adept at sumo wrestling

It was also said that the graphics will be better than in previous games, which means considerable work has been put in, because Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the most recent ‘major’ game in the series, boasted sumptuous visuals.
It’s not yet known when Assassin’s Creed Red will be released, but it’s expected that it’ll drop at some point in 2024.

I am exciting for Naoe but Yasuke no thank you.
I won’t probably buy that game…
