Final Fantasy 14 is coming to Nintendo Switch 2. The game is slated to release in August 2026. At the time of this writing, there is no confirmed release date in August.
During the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest 2026, game director and producer Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida, along with Square Enix CEO Takashi Kiryu, announced the news while showcasing gameplay. However, there is a catch with the Nintendo Switch 2. Players will need more than one subscription.
Final Fantasy 14 on Nintendo Switch 2 Requires Multiple Subscriptions
Access to Final Fantasy 14 requires a monthly subscription. For the Nintendo Switch 2 version, the game will require its own subscription in addition to the default subscription. As a make good for that caveat, players will be able to play the game without an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription. On top of that, anyone with an active subscription to the Final Fantasy 14 servers will be able to purchase the Switch version at 50% off.
“After discussions with Nintendo, it was decided that the Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy XIV would require a separate subscription,” Yoshi-P said, via a translator, to IGN. “Again, this was decided after many months of discussions with Nintendo, and I understand that this is different to how we’ve done things before.”
Additional news about the MMORPG was revealed during the presentation. For starters, it was announced that the next major expansion will be known as Evercold. The sixth expansion will launch in January 2027.
There is also a crossover with the iconic anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. Called “Ghosts of Desire,” it will function as the alliance raid for the upcoming expansion. More details will be revealed later. Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report all updates.

Trash no one will play. Should have been FF15 and Type-0 HD. Also a Sleeping Dogs port.
