The first piece of Valve’s new Steam hardware lineup seems to be close to a release. YouTube channel Techy Talk posted a review of the Steam Controller—likely breaking embargo—that goes into details on its features, but also gives away what the price could be.
In the now-deleted, but reuploaded elsewhere, video, the channel says that the Steam Controller will cost $99.99.
Since revealing the controller in November, Valve has been quiet on when it could release. In fact, they’ve been silent on when any of their new hardware, like the controller, the Steam Machine, and the Steam Frame, would launch.
The plan was always to release all three new devices at, or around, the same time. However, due to component shortages and cost increases, Valve has held back on announcing both the prices and release dates for everything. In fact, the Steam Machine, and in turn the VR headset and controller, were originally planned for a release in March 2026. Obviously, that timeframe has come and gone with nothing available.
For those concerned about what things mean for the Steam Machine, I’m to understand that Valve is getting closer to confirming everything. They’ve been going back and forth internally on pricing and whether they would be willing to take a loss on the cost, at least in the short term. It’s unclear what decision has been made, but the internal belief is that an announcement on a release is getting closer.
