NZXT, the company known for its pre-built PCs and other components, and its partner Fragile have agreed to pay a $3.45 million settlement for a class-action lawsuit that was brought against the companies.
The lawsuit claimed that NZXT’s Flex PC rental program was designed to “scam” customers who were looking for a modern gaming PC.
Announced in July 2024, the system was met with harsh criticism almost immediately. The noise became so loud that NZXT’s CEO publicly responded to customer concerns regarding rent-to-own, parts used in the machines, and more. That wasn’t enough, however, as three customers filed a complaint in August 2025 against the company.
The lawsuit alleged that NZXT and Fragile, the company’s payment partner, participated in “bait-and-switch” mechanics to defraud customers. The lawsuit alleges:
Defendants accomplished their PC rental scheme through a bait-and-switch where Defendants (1) advertised PCs with specific components and attributes but provided consumers with lower quality components PCs and (2) misrepresented the nature of the Program including that there were no contracts, no cancellation fees, that consumers would own the PC, and leading customers to reasonably believe the Program was a rent-to-own agreement.
On April 7, first spotted by Gamers Nexus, a settlement was reached with a group of 19,322 NZXT customers. This settlement, which is pending judge approval, would include $923,117 of debt forgiveness that provides up to $5,000 to those who are 90 days past due on payments.
In addition to the debt forgiveness, some customers will also be able to keep and own their PCs if they meet the requirements, such as paying into the program for two years or more.
Finally, a $1.45 million settlement cash fund is also being allocated to payout to customers. For those who aren’t eligible for debt relief or the retention plan can fill out a claim form—available after settlement approval—to receive cash relief.
