Marc ‘Caedrel’ Lamont has rejected the offer to represent Great Britain at the inaugural Esports Nations Cup, as confirmed to Insider Gaming by national team manager Jeff Simpkins.
As revealed recently on his Twitch stream, Caedrel was offered the chance to come out of retirement to compete at the upcoming international event.
The co-streamer was asked to return to pro play as a mid laner for Great Britain’s League of Legends team.
However, Caedrel has now turned down the opportunity to play and will focus on his content instead.
Why Caedrel Declined the Offer
While no official reason was given, Caedrel shared his doubts about coming out of retirement during a recent livestream.
Having retired from pro play six years ago and having not played mid lane competitively for eight years, Caedrel stressed over the necessary commitment to compete again:
“If I played mid, that basically means I have to go back to being pro and I don’t know if that’s a good idea or not.”
Caedrel also lamented the timing of the event being just a few weeks after Worlds, and how practice would clash with his co-streaming.
“My health gets pretty bad when I start grinding League,” Caedrel admitted, describing his personality as “obsessive” when playing.
It’s also been a stressful week for Caedrel with the former pro being demonised during the latest co-streaming drama.
The toxicity caused Caedrel to end his co-stream of the LEC early on Monday, April 20.
What Team Will Great Britain field at the Esports Nations Cup?
There is currently a severe lack of British talent competing in League of Legends.
No British pro has competed in LEC since 2020, and there were no British players at the recently finished EMEA Masters.
Even in the NLC, the EMEA Regional League for the UK and Nordic countries, only three out of the 100 players were from the UK.
That leaves Team Great Britain with a severe lack of options, especially in the mid lane.
Insider Gaming was told that Great Britain is still exploring mid lane options.
It’s possible that the team may have to rely on former pros such as LEC coaches Barney ‘Alphari’ Morris and Nubar ‘Maxlore’ Sarafia.
