Gears of War Voice Actor Says The Coalition Nearly Made Gears 6 Instead of E-Day

Liam McIntyre brought JD Fenix to life in Gears of War 4 and 5. The voice actor has praised the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day showcase and the new direction for the franchise, but has revealed Gears 6 was happening, and he hopes to see the series continue.

Gears of War: E-Day is a 2026 prequel taking us all the way back to the events of Emergence Day and the fallout that ensued. It’s a bold move following recent sequels, and one of the series’ key voice actors has chimed in on Gears and where it was possibly headed.

JD Fenix voice actor Liam McIntyre recently responded to the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day presentation taking place after the Xbox Games Showcase.

He’s delighted about the announcement and revealed that he’s ‘pumped’ to see it happening.

When asked if he’s upset about the trilogy not being completed (Gears 6), here’s what he had to say on X:

“I hope they go back to it, but I love those guys and just want them to make a game they feel nails the gears experience everyone loves. That’d be awesome. And hey, if that leads back to the trilogy, Happy days.”

When quizzed about a ‘trilogy,’ McIntyre had an interesting response:

“We did Gears 4 and 5, and there was a suggestion that maybe there would be a Gears 6. But the team wanted to try something new as I understand it. And honestly, it looks great. Can’t wait to play.”

So, there was clearly a sense that The Coalition considered making Gears 6, but decided to go ahead with the Gears of War: E-Day prequel. Not many people are complaining, to be honest, and there’s a high likelihood that The Coalition goes back and develops Gears 6 anyway once E-Day is wrapped up!

Now it’s time for your say: Do you think The Coalition should’ve stayed the course and focused on Gears of War 6 first? Or was a fresh perspective and story with E-Day the right call? Let us know your thoughts via the Insider Gaming Discord.
