An insider has claimed that the rumored PS6 handheld’s GPU is more powerful than the Xbox Series S’s.
We have seen many details about the PlayStation 6 handheld in recent months, including claims from insiders that it has impressive memory specs and is dockable. Now, an insider has revealed how it stacks up against one of Xbox’s current-gen consoles and Nintendo’s Switch 2.
PS6 Handheld GPU is Better than the Xbox Series and Has Better Upscaling than Switch 2
A new post in a recent NeoGaf thread by KeplerL2 (via Wccftech) compares the PS6 handheld’s GPU to that of the Xbox Series S. The insider stated that the rumored handheld’s GPU is “a bit ahead” of the Series S in Raster and “massively ahead” in aspects like Ray Tracing and Path Tracing.
When asked whether PSSR3 would be better than Switch 2’s upscaling, the insider stated, “Switch 2 only has DLSS 2 (CNN) and some games even use the worse “DLSS Lite”. FSR5/PSSR3 will be better IQ than even current DLSS 4.5″.
The upcoming handheld is set to have ‘a good amount of memory’ at 24GB. Additionally, the following specs were leaked for the “PS6 Canis Handheld” back in August 2025:
- Monolithic 3nm Die (He was able to verify THIS in modern documents).
- Backward Compatibility to PS5 and PS4 Generations. (No mention of PS3).
- Canis includes a MicroSD Slot, M.2 SSD Slot, Haptic Vibration, Dual Mics, and a Touchscreen.
- Specifically, a diagram indicates that the USB-C port has video-out capabilities.
- Manufacturing Planned for Mid-2027, with a likely Fall 2027 or Early-2028 Release Date.
- 15W TBP.
- 4 x Zen 6c Cores.
- 12-20 RDNA 5 Compute Units @ 1.6-2GHz.
- 128-bit bus w/ LPDDR5X-7500+.
- Rasterization Performance estimated to be ~0.5x PS5 (RT Expected to be higher than this).
- Canis should beat XBOX Ally X in performance, but it doesn’t come off as a “powerhouse”.
