COD League ‘Most Financially Stable We’ve Ever Been’, Says Activision

The Call of Duty League has, in some ways, had a rocky few years. It fell prey to the same issues that plagued almost every other facet of the esports industry for a while, becoming susceptible to the risky winter that threatened profitability, sustainability, interest, and investment. But, by all accounts, things are now firmly on the up.

In a recent interview with the General Manager of Call of Duty Esports, Daniel Tsay, Insider Gaming Esports learned just how bullish Activision is on the Call of Duty League, and for good reason. In Tsay’s words, things have never been better

Is the Call of Duty League Succeeding?

From an uninitiated perspective, it might not look as though the Call of Duty League is thriving. It’s not a top-tier esports title, but that’s not necessarily a problem. What is an issue is the ever-changing sentiment around each new annual release, some of the competitive elements of the game, and the stability of the wider Call of Duty ecosystem.

Despite these concerns, the Call of Duty League is, as Activision has directly suggested to Insider Gaming Esports, doing better than ever.

That’s from the horse’s mouth of Daniel Tsay, the General Manager of Call of Duty Esports. He has been in his role for several years, leading the competitive charge of Call of Duty across both Warzone and the traditional multiplayer titles, which at the time of writing was Black Ops 7.

Talking to Insider Gaming Esports, Tsay confirmed:

We’ve had to shift in how we execute, but we’ve really concentrated our bets into areas that I think have really propelled this forward.

We’re actually the most financially stable we’ve ever been. Viewership is also the highest it has ever been.

Tsay went on to talk about the prospect of taking the Call of Duty League Championship, the most valuable event in the calendar, out of North America and into Europe. If there’s one thing DreamHack Birmingham has proven, it’s that the Call of Duty esports scene is white-hot in the United Kingdom.
